Velonews is talking about my weekend!
PS: Lots of riding lately, and 7 CX races since my last update. I’ll post something soon, really!

Along the way to SF, I rode and chatted with a friendly rider going in the same direction. It turns out he’s the author of this blog, and it’s quite hilarious. I hope to see more posts soon!* The Eric Heiden one was hilarious, keeping in mind that I only recently learned of the legend (like all would-be OLH-climbers). And “The Conversation” made me laugh out loud, even...
Afternoon Ride to SF...
It’s just that my friends were up in the city and I wanted to join them, but I really wanted to get a decent ride in. So, I did both!
Mo Ridin' Less Bloggin'
But last time I posted it was just after my second crit. And yesterday was my eighth. The series (of training rides disguised as races) is almost over, with only two races remaining! They’ve been going pretty well for me and I’m learning a lot. I think I’m becoming a better (in addition to a stronger) rider too. Riding in a pack makes you pay attention to how safely and...

Saratoga Gap, I missed you...
But why you gotta make me break my chain and get bug bites?
Jerry and I went out and shredded some gnar (read: rode some of the sanitized trails in the South Skyline Region). Good times. Here’s some pictures. A whopping (almost) ten miles of riding was had!
Yes, this pond is really that green.
Great view of the ocean, over the gap…
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
After the Century Saturday, I took it easy on Sunday… But knew that I’d be upgrading to the B’s in the SJBC crits and that I needed to keep the motor spinning. So on Monday I took a nice fast ride home from work via Foothill, Arastradero, and Page Mill. Good times, but nothing to report there.
Tuesday was the race, and Eric and I challenged the B group. Compared to the C race...
Recovery, then...
So after the race on Tuesday, I was off the bike for the whole rest of the week. Lazy, right? So come Saturday, I want to do a long ride. In fact, I decide to check off another checkbox in my cycling resumé and just do a damn century. Previously my biggest day was 87 miles.
So that’s what I did. Rode up to Woodside from Palo Alto to meet up with John, Dan, and Harold, blasted up Kings...
"I'm not a road racer" but...
Eric convinced me to come out and do the San Jose Bicycle Club tuesday twilight criterium. I was really intimidated about my own speed an ability to ride in such close quarters, but since he had started it and said it was “fun” I decided to give it a try.
Well, to make a long story incredibly short: Eric won and I came in second in my first race. Not only that, but I feel like I was...
The Very Next Day...
After a Saturday MTB race, you’d think that it’d be time for a nice easy spin or sleep to recover. Well, fate didn’t have that in store for me. Well, no. Jason called me up at 9:30 and told me to head to the East Bay for the Rad Massaker alleycat.
Here’s the scene at the start:
Okay, so I harbor few illusions about my speed on the bike, and even fewer of my ability to...
June Gets Serious: Lake Sonoma
Okay, so it’s been a while since I wrote an entry… But what a ton of things have happened!
First off, Lu and I joined Krishna and Derrick on Sheila Moon to race at the Lake Sonoma Series. The course was a long gravel road descent, followed by some flowy mostly downhill singletrack, into a long, exposed climb back to the start. Good times… Beginners did 3 laps, and it took me...

Lazy June So Far
After my big month in May, I seriously feel like I need a tuneup after all this time off the bike this month. The first week was just laziness or recovery from the end of May, and the second week was full of sickness. I managed to squeeze in a couple rides, but the milage total is pretty sad!
The only rides of note I’ve done were an extremely-abortive trip out around Lexington on Tuesday (5...
They will have to cycle in a pack, will not be ranked and, for obvious reasons,...

35-ish Miles to round out my 400-mile May.
Not sure why I went up Hicks again, but I wanted to push further south towards Morgan Hill and Gilroy. However, I decided instead to explore the connection between McKean and Santa Teresa, which happens to go through IBM property. No pictures of that because I was worried about the black helicopters and SUVs chasing me down if I stopped...

SoNoMas 100 (degrees) MTB Race
Ha! I didn’t touch a bike all weekend. Unless you count the bikes owned by riders whom we assisted at the beer-iest aid station ever.
Murph, Derrick, Sasha, Joe and I made sure the Team Sheila Moon-staffed aid station was easy to find:
The Long Way Home (alternate version)
Turned my after-work ride home on Friday into a serious business ride by meeting up with PB. We rode out to McClellan at a social pace, after which he sprinted up the hill and stayed in front of me for most of the rest of the ride. All the while, he complained about “feeling really slow today.” Yeah, whatever.
An offhand comment about the “Long way” vs. the “Short...

Bike to Work Days
I would love to ride in more. Like, every day if possible. Laziness usually prevents that… Not so much that I’m too lazy to turn the pedals, but my problem getting up early enough.
Rode in today, rode in yesterday. Took the long way home yesterday (turning a flat commute into a trip through Stevens Canyon, Mount Eden, Pierce, Highway 9, and Los Gatos…)
Maybe there’s...
